Less Than 24 hours to take off

After many changes and second guessing the gear selection is over.  Probably would have continued to stress over the right selections but ran out of time.  I think I am in a good place.  Thanks Deborah, Drew and Dave for the advice and information.

Did a final trial packing of my backpack.  I got everything to fit!  I’m looking at a little over 33 pounds.

Clothes and gear were treated with permethrin last week to keep those pesky insects away.  Hope it works as advertised.

Smoky Mountain Backcountry Permit is also in hand so I won’t need to worry about getting it on the trail.

Travel connections (flight, MARTA and shuttle) to Amicolola are secured for Tuesday as is accommodation at the Lodge at Amicolola Falls.

It begins on Wednesday!🏕

Inching Toward the Start

Got some help from a neighbor to set up this blog.  Thanks Alex! I love the new technology but its challenging for me so this is a big help.  We are keeping the technology simple for my sake. The blog will also act as my journal to capture some memories so I won’t need to carry a paper one.

Will do one more trial packing and then repack everything in airplane mode for the flight to Atlanta.  Seeing Fleetwood Mac this weekend before flying out early Tuesday morning.

Five Days before the Trail

Five days until I fly to Georgia to begin my hike.  It’s been several months of research and preparation to begin a journey which I have read so much about.  Past hikers have inspired me to undertake this journey. Their tales are amazing. Perhaps I will have one of my own.  I hope I’m ready for this adventure.  I am both excited and anxious on what this will bring.  I’ll be missing loved ones for a while but hope to make it up to them when I return.  I am doing this blog to assist my memory after the hike is over and to let those who are interested track my progress. Hope this blog will help to keep them in touch.
